HISTORICAL FUN FACT OF HOMOSEXUALITY IN NIGERIAN CULTURE
Many times, we hear people argue with us that being gay isn't in the African culture. So here are some fun facts that shows that same-sex has always been in the Nigerian culture
IGBO
In the igbo culture, we know women are not allowed to wear nmanwu (masquerade). Adanma masquerade celebrates feminine men and this has been our culture long before the white men came with religion.
In hausa culture, queen Amina of zaria (who is on our 5 naira notes) dressed like a man, was a general in her army, went to war and married women for herself.
Also, before the coming of Islam, the word "dandaudu" was never a derogatory word as used as today. It was a revered title for men who play the role of wives to other men and this was "culture" which thrived thousands of years before colonialism.
